Now in its 30th season, MRT debuted in 1979 with its production of The Passion of Dracula, which was performed at Mahoney Hall on the campus of UMass Lowell.  In 1987, MRT presented its first world premiere production, Jack Neary’s  First Night, and since then has gone on to produce 46 new plays, including 14 world premieres and 32 regional premieres.  The Company’s next production, the regional premiere of Richard Dresser’s A View of the Harbor, has the distinction of being the 200th professional production in the history of MRT.  In addition to introducing local audiences to new works, MRT has also had a major impact in the educational experience of students in the Merrimack Valley.  Through its student matinee series, MRT has introduced over 100,000 students to joy of live theatre over the past 30 years.

As part of its 30th anniversary celebration, MRT will host a gala on Friday, June 12, 2009 at Lowell Memorial Auditorium.  More details about the anniversary gala will be announced as they become available.
