RANDOM SPORT OF THE DAY – OSTRICH RACING

RANDOM SPORT OF THE DAY – OSTRICH RACING

Ostrich Racing at the Ostrich Festival in Chandler, Arizona

Today we look at our first random sport featuring an animal, Ostrich Racing. People can ride ostriches the same way they do horses, with saddles and reins, but ostriches are much harder to control. Billed as a “hilarious and unpredictable event,” ostriches can reach top speeds of 40 MPH and most riders have trouble finishing the race. Other races, like the one below, feature ostriches pulling little chariots with riders.

If you want to see Ostrich Racing in person, plan a trip to the Ostrich Festival in Chandler, Arizona. For 22 years now, this three day festival has allowed spectators to watch Ostrich races while at the same time consuming Ostrich burgers. To see The Complete World of Sports (abridged) featuring the Reduced Shakespeare Company, visit www.MerrimackRep.org or call 978.654.4MRT for tickets.
