MRT RECEIVES 13 IRNE AWARD NOMINATIONS


Tryst and The Exceptionals Each Nominated for Four Awards including “Best Play”

Lowell, MA – MRT has been nominated for 13 awards in the Large Theater category by the Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE). The romantic thriller Tryst by Karoline Leach was nominated for four awards including Best Play, Best Actress (Andrea Maulella), Best Actor (Mark Shanahan), and Best Director (Joe Brancato). Additionally MRT’s world premiere of The Exceptionals by Robert Clyman garnered four nominations including Best Play, Best New Play, Best Actress (Catherine Eaton), and Best Director for MRT’s Artistic Director, Charles Towers. This is Towers’ fourth consecutive year as a nominee in the category, an award he won in 2008 for directing Edward Albee’s A Delicate Balance at MRT.

Three other MRT productions also received IRNE nominations. The Persian Quarter by Kathleen Cahill is up for three awards: Campbell Baird for Best Set Design, Brian Lilienthal for Best Lighting Design, and Beth Wittig for Best Actress. Finally Two Jews Walk into a War… by Seth Rozin and This Verse Business by A.M. Dolan each received one nomination. David Remedios is up for Best Sound Design for Two Jews Walk into a War… and Gordon Clapp is up for Best Solo Performance for his portrayal of poet Robert Frost in This Verse Business.
