The Friends of MRTwill host Spring Into Auction on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 6:00PM at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center, 50 Warren Street, Lowell. This event will be feature both live and silent auctions with a wide range of items and unique experiences up for bid. Donations for the auctions include trips, sports memorabilia, artwork and much more. Dinner will be served, and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $65 per person, and can be purchased online at or by calling 978-654-7552. Parking is available in the Lower Locks Parking Garage adjacent to the Inn and Conference Center for only $2. Proceeds from the event support MRT’s mainstage productions and education programs.

“The Friends of MRT play such a key role in the theatre’s fundraising efforts,” said MRT Board of Trustees Member Caroline Rider. “We are very fortunate to have this dedicated group of volunteers working to put on memorable events like the auction each year.”

“Spring Into Auction is the Friends’ largest event of the season,” said Friends of MRT co-chair Ellen Gath. “Through the Auction we are able to raise in excess of $100,000 to support MRT’s mission of bringing quality professional theatre to the area”

MRT Executive Director Steven Leon added “The auction is our major fundraising event of the year. A successful auction is critical to our ability to stage seven professional productions each season, produce our Young Artists at Play (YAAP) summer theatre camp, and serve thousands of seniors and students through discount ticketing programs.”

Spring Into Auction will feature Celebrity Auctioneer Susan Wornick. Susan is a famed news anchor for WCVB-TV who has won several awards including three regional Emmy Awards and a Silver Circle Award from The National Academy of Television Arts & Science.

The Friends of MRT is an auxiliary fundraising group that hosts special events, social functions and fund drives. The group plays a pivotal role in strengthening MRT’s base of support by introducing new people to the theatre and making events like this possible. Members of the Friends of MRT enjoy a fun, social environment, the opportunity to network with other theatre lovers and supporters, and the valuable sense of accomplishment that accompanies volunteer work.
